 Plagiarism charge against AKTU VC, confirms govt

NEW DELHI : The HRD Minister of State Satya Pal Singh confirmed in Rajya Sabha on August 2 that a case of plagiarism has come to the notice of the UniveProf Vinay Pathakrsity Grants Commission (UGC) against Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice Chancellor Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and that the authorities concerned have been requested to take action against him.

The minister was replying to a question (No. 1819) in Rajya Sabha which sought to know whether any cases of plagiarism and fake thesis writing for Ph.D had been reported during the last three years.

The minister, in reply, affirmed that UGC has informed that three cases have come to their notice in last three years against three persons namely Dr. Chandra Krishnamurthy, Vice-Chancellor (V.C) Pondicherry University (2015); Dr. Anil Kumar Upadhyay, Reader Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidya peeth, Varanasi (2017); and Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice Chancellor Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow (2018).

He elaborated that Dr Chandra Krishnamurthy was dismissed from the post of VC on 4th July, 2016 and that concerned universities have been requested to take action against the rest two.

Pondicherry University vice-chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy was served a show-cause notice by the President on August 21, 2015, after a probe launched by the University Grants Commission (UGC) found her guilty of serious academic frauds, including holding a fake D.Litt degree. She had replied to the Presidentís notice only in April 2016. In May 2016 she resigned from the post.

Dr Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice Chancellor Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow is contesting the plagiarism charge. He has completed his three year term in office and was awarded another terms of three years on August 1.
